A Jolly Christmas

Appetizer:

It’s that time of the year, the most wonderful time of the year as many say.

A time to be Jolly.

A time to be Merry.

A time of Glee.

A time of Giving.

Main Course:

But as I’ve gotten older I’ve found that this time of year, Christmas time, can be very draining to some.  It can be very sad and depressing.  We’re missing love ones who are no longer here to enjoy the festivities.  Then there’s the pressure of making sure all the necessary gifts have been brought, the food is in the fridge, the tree is up and decorated. It’s constant chaos.

Christmas is rather bitter-sweet for me.  I enjoy creating memories with my family.  My only wish is that I’m creating significant memories with my daughter that she will remember as she gets older.  I appreciate the memories from my childhood that were created as well as the traditions, but those traditions have faded away.  So, sometimes that makes me sad.  Let’s not get me on the Temptations, Silent Night song, that immediately takes me waaaaayyyy back.  My grandfather would play that song over and over and over again.  Especially after he’s had a few drinks.  That’s definitely a bitter- sweet moment.

Dessert:

As an adult, Christmas comes and goes so fast.  For the most part, I try to remain in the “Jolly” space.  Living and creating new memories and traditions.

How do you feel about Christmas?  Is it too overwhelming?  Does it put you in a Jolly mindset?
