I get it, no one likes going to the doctor. It’s frustrating to have a 1pm appointment that turns into an all day affair. Going to the doctor sucks but it’s necessary!
With the New Year moving right along I want to personally remind each of you to remember to get your doctor visits in. It’s all about that Self Maintenance that we all agreed to do on January 1st (read about my personal mission HERE). Going to the Doctor goes hand and hand with exercising and making time for yourself. We should be just as concerned with what’s going on in the inside of our bodies as we are with the outside of our body!
Just think about how many lives we can save if we are proactive instead of reactive? Let me tell you, the Black Community try to avoid the doctors at all cost but in today’s world it is better to be safe than sorry. Besides, if we are totally honest, there are some things that Ginger Ale just can’t cure.
I would also like to suggest that you take it a step further and talk to your family about your families medical history. This will come in handy when you’re talking to your doctor and having those necessary health discussions.
So, get those Primary Doctors lined up, call any specialist you may need, and put those insurance cards to work. It’s time to stop making excuses and to be examples for our children. Besides, don’t you want to be here for your grandkids and your great grandkids?
Guess what else falls under the Self Maintenance umbrella?
We’ve discussed this on the blog before so you all know how I feel about it! In case you missed it, check it out HERE!
“Work on you, for you”
ps: I like to try to make my appointments around my birthday so that I can remember to get them done each year and I’ll know the last time I went to the doctor.
Let me know how you’re doing with your checkups for the year!
